Birmingham, AL (June 1, 2009) – In an further show of Sterne Agee’s commitment to municipal finance, Sterne Agee announces four new hires on our New York desk – Jim McGinley, Senior Vice President and General Markets Trader, Pat Tucci, Senior Vice President in Institutional Sales, John Donovan in Institutional Sales, and Mike Azzinaro, Vice President of Municipal Desk Operations.
Jim McGinley brings 26 years of experience in municipal trading, having started on Kidder Peabody’s desk on the operations side after graduating from college, then moving immediately into trading. After 10 years at Kidder, Mr. McGinley joined UBS Securities (formerly PaineWebber) in 1993. During his 14 years at UBS, he first ran the short-term desk, before becoming Intermediate Trader and Managing Director in 2005. After UBS exited the municipal finance business, Mr. McGinley worked briefly at M.R. Beale and most recently was the Head of Municipal Sales and Trading at Hapoalim Securities. Mr. McGinley is graduate of Elmira College.
Pat Tucci has nearly 15 years of experience in municipal finance, having worked as a municipal bond portfolio manager, trader and salesman over his career. Mr. Tucci started his career in municipals at Salomon Smith Barney, before moving to MBIA Capital Management and most recently, Dexia Credit Local. Mr. Tucci’s background affords him insight into many aspects of municipals, including variable rate instruments, derivatives, unique credit situations, hedging strategies and regular general market fixed rate bonds. He is a designated Chartered Financial Analyst and he holds a BS degree in Business Administration from Villanova (cum laude).
John Donovan brings a diverse background and strong client base to our municipal effort. Mr. Donovan was most recently in the municipal institutional sales group at Piper Jaffray (2003 – 2008). Prior to that, Mr. Donovan was a commodities trader on the New York Mercantile Exchange (1981 – 1986), a municipal bond trader at CitiBank (1986 – 1992), head of the municipal bond trading desk at Lazard Freres (1992 – 1995) and a municipal salesman and trader at JP Morgan (1996 – 2003). He was the institutional sales manager at JP Morgan from 2000 – 2002. Mr. Donovan holds a BS degree from Georgetown University.
Mike Azzinaro has 29 years of experience in municipal syndicate operations and bond underwriting. Most recently with Bank of America Securities, Mr. Azzinaro previously spent 20 years on the desk of UBS Securities (formerly PaineWebber), where he was a Director of the Municipal Bond Underwriting Department. Prior to UBS, Mr. Azzinaro worked on the municipal desk of EF Hutton and its successor, Shearson Lehman Hutton.
Messrs. McGinley, Tucci, Donovan and Azzinaro join Jamie Cortese, head of municipal underwriting, sales and trading, and institutional salesman Bernard Bailey, who joined Sterne Agee earlier this year after long careers with UBS and Bear Stearns, respectively.
